Japanese forest

Oh it is long ten years ago. In those days I have visited Japan quite often, I mean two sometimes even three times per year for around five years. If I remember correctly. Photograph in this post is little special. It is one of the first I made with that blurred lens technique. Technique I invented in Japan. I do not have any special name for the image, nor there is any special story. It is simple one of the first images done with a shaving gel on UV filter.

Let us call this image Japanese forest, for simplicity. I was walking with a camera around and had with me that new invention. UV filter with shaving gel. I just put it on, the evening before. I am not sure how that came to my mind. It was late night, rather special night, depressive one. I put that jelly blue stuff on UV filter. Funny is that I never shaved nor shave now using a shaving gel. No idea why I bought it that night.

Let us, however go back to that Sunday morning. I made few images without it and then I put it on. This is the result.

Nikdy som sa neholil a ani neholím s gelom. Kúpil som ho večer v hoteli, keď som o kolo pol noci stále nemohol zaspať.

Ale späť k tomuto nedeľnému ránu. Urobil som zopár záberov a prvý krát cez deň som nasmeroval objektív s touto mazanicou na filtre do slnka. A to čo vidíte tu je výsledok.

I like, and find it funny, that you say you never used gel shaving stuff, and don’t know how you came to acquire it… but then a quintessential Richard Vanek style was created

Hi Richard! This one makes me think of something painful – painful to look at. Something like when when I was a child and would press my fingers to my eyes and create those brilliant colored patterns. Probably not a good thing to do but I was a kid., so who knows?

You mention that “It was late night, rather special night, depressive one.” So did this new technique (the gel on the uv filter) somehow convey your mood at the time?

As always, your photos are very Interesting..

    Thank You
    Paul D.

Paul, sorry for a delay in answer (you may deduct the reason from next post, hopefully coming today). Thanks for your very insightful comment.,

Very interesting conclusion you made in your comment. You feel pain when you look at it. Yes this is directly related to the condition of my mind when I completely without a reason picked up the gel. and put it in front of a lens.

I felt desperate, depressed alone between millions of Tokyo people. Alone without a possibility to have a meaningful conversation. Alone in the night at thirty first floor. So desperate I was thinking to jump, but windows can not be opened, so I went to the shop in ground floor and wondered around it at late hours until I picked the gel.
