In the middle of the road

What would be a great thing to write about? Some thoughts while I stand in the middle of the road. Should it be what you feel, what makes your mind busy? Things you think about when you have time? Memories of better times or current issues which make you nervous?

Routine

I do not know. I am however quite convinced that I need to write. I need to have a routine and keep working. Such an approach should not only apply to my writings but mainly to my photography. Looking at the work of Tarkovsky, for example, but also other people who achieved something, they all work most of the time. One need to not only be ready (for good ideas) but also have a particular level of quality as well.

Photography

My photographs are far from what I would love them to be. I should start, doing something different. Not only edit images I made, why doing something else (walking, having a holiday). Create the first images with my hands. Simple table setup, lights and camera on a tripod. Play with light, create a mood. Yes, I should do that.

…or you could call it “sleepwalking”.

Trying new things, re-trying old things, trying things in a slightly different way, creating. Yes, if you are up to it, you should do that. But just for the record, I like what I see here, what I have seen in the distant past, what I have seen the past months.

But for the creator himself, the view is always different. You know you want to get more out of it. Go ahead, give it a go.

Really like this image, Richard… also like how the contrast is high enough to add to the middle of the road dilemma, where it looks like the subject (you?) is also trying to balance and walk on a high wire… which is also heightened by the subject with his arms out as if trying to balance… Or could just be looked at as resolve for a semi to come barreling down the road to take him out!

What I have learned personally, is don’t try to force yourself to produce work… as it only led to negative results, most of the time, in the forcing of trying to create something, even when not in a creative mode… The work will just be forced, an anything to just to have done something, which in turn you will dislike, and in turn question your ability, artistry, for creating nothing but crap…

Just always keep your eyes, heart and mind open to at any time create something if something presents itself to you, either internally or externally. Let it be true, let it be natural, let it be honest. If so, you will be glad and happy with the results.

I’ve always admired your ability, discipline, need, to make more than just simply photos of something, but to also have those photos create, and/or contain something deeper and more. Me, I am just a free spirit almost when it comes to my photography mostly, and just liking to capture that which catches my eye, and that’s it… would like to do deeper work, just as you strive to do… but, like I said, just got to feel it, and when I do, I do so, and am personally pleased with the results… when I don’t, could care less for it, and think it is nothing but crap.

As you said to me recently – go, man, go!

      Jeff,
I really do try to keep with your travel, didn’t write to your blog much of a comments, please do excuse me for it. I will try to improve ;-)

Your note about forcing to create is mostly correct, at least I had the same opinion for some time. Now I feel I need to have habit and rhythm. Mostly because this will keep me in momentum. It doesn’t mean I will force myself to create when it doesn’t work. I may do in that same time some reading or drawing or anything related to the creativity. I am too lazy and if I will wait for a time I will be creative I will die lazy :-D

So every day I write a little, I edit some image or watch Tarkovsky movie or some documentary. To keep myself in the mood and get inspiration and rhythm.

Ohhhhhh… Makes sense now… I wasn’t making the connection before

Well, you must be proud, to have your own flesh and blood, following in your photographic footsteps… I know I would be happy and proud if one of my prodigy took the same level of interest and passion in something that I too also always have had. Good for her… I’ll be sure to check her work out
