Having two web sites

I am recently thinking about making one from two web sites I have. One where I almost daily publish my blog and images called <a href="http://www.piskoftak.com/”>www.piskoftak.com and the second one www.richard-vanek.eu marketed more towards my portfolio work as presentation of selected work.

I feel that having one site with better, perhaps flash based, presentation would be more effective as having two site. Tell me what do you think and which domain name, you think, I should keep.

Thanks for your opinion!

Of course, why dilute it all.

Combine the domains for the time being, i.e. both names lead to the same site. Easy to do.

Me personally, I think it’s logical to go with just one… why have two when you can have it all on one? Even if you wanted to keep the two separate, you could still keep each area and section different from the other while still hosting it on the same domain.

Unless it’s somehow difficult to do so with your web setup (which I am sure it is not, as even I can have each and every single page on my site look completely different from each and every other single page if I wanted, and I am an absolute novice, and if I can do it…) you can even still keep the same individual look of each site now, and still have them retain their own current set-up, just instead of different websites, they are different pages on the same website.

I think it would logically be simpler, better manageable and organized for you to consolidate both into one, and still be able to keep them separate from the other, if so wanted and choose.

As for which domain … you would have to remind me of what piskoftak means… I am pretty sure I asked you when we first met years ago, but can’t recall now… your name website makes sense, because people looking for you and/or your work, well – your name… but you chose pskoftak for a reason, and whatever that reason was for you, if it still stands today, then, it is your site, you choose what you better want to use to have people associate you and your work with.

Of course, I am the last person to offer advice on any of this! :-)

    Dirk,
than I need to pay for both domains, but of course that would be solution for certain time of transit ;-)

    Jeff,
for the names I agree that my name is more practical and more business wise, but piskoftak is from heavily sentimental reasons.

In general I am more than about names thinking what should be content of that common site. More like http://www.piskoftak.com or more like http://www.richard-vanek.eu ?

Tell me what do you think about that please.

If piskoftak has significance and meaning to you, then I would use it. I would just maybe extrapolate and share on it’s meaning to you on the site to your visitors – of what it means, stands for, signifies, why it is of heavy sentimental feelings to you… and then tie that in to your approach, how it reflects your work and that which the visitor will find on your site. Because that would make it certainly more personal, special, and unique than the straightforward simple use of your name.
